Beach House: Teen Dream

After listening to this album 500 times on repeat, I feel completely compelled to write about Beach House's third album, Teen Dream. I'd say each year, I fall in love real hard with one album and if it's an especially good year in music, maybe two. January is not even over and I'm pretty sure I've stumbled upon "The One". I know it's early on, but the chances of me liking an album more than this are extremely slim. If you haven't caught on to the point I'm trying to make here, let me clear it up for you. This album knocked me off my feet and I'm head over heels in love with it. The album may be called "Teen Dream" but there is nothing "teenage-y" about it. These are some of the most beautifully written, intimate, mature songs I have ever heard. There are three songs that stood out among the rest for me after the first listen: "Walk In The Park," a song about coming to terms with losing love (I think, anyway), "Used To Be," an upbeat sounding song with heartbreaking lyrics, and "Better Times," which I was immediately in love with after I heard the catchy repetition of," How much longer can you play with fire before you turn into a liar?" The remaining seven songs are nothing to frown upon and deserve a lot of your time. It's rare to find an album that you can listen to in its' entirety. Teen Dream is one of them. Their dreamy, eerie sound is literally, music to my ears.
