I've come to notice over the past few years, twenty seven years to be exact, that I have a very distinct music listening pattern. Usually, this pattern consists of me listening to nothing but the same three songs for about a week or until I find another three songs to replace them with, whichever comes first. And they don't even have to be new songs. They can be songs I've heard a million times but for some reason, I just reconnect with them hard. I tend to obsess over songs that I love. If I didn't happen to stumble upon other songs, I probably would never listen to anything else and the sick thing is, I know I would never even get sick of these songs because I sweat them so much. I know, it's a sick relationship. That being said, I have been listening to the same three songs for about a week now and thought I'd share them with you two. (I love that joke, clearly.) I'm thinking I might just make this a regular, reoccurring blog post section because good songs need to be shared and loved. I hope you dig 'em as much as I do! My three songs of the week aaarrreeeeee (drumroll please):Tegan and Sara - "Call It Off"
I had this song on my iPod for a long, long time and never listened to it. Thankfully, MTV chose it as a background song on one episode during The Hills marathon. (I wasn't watching it, my cat, Smallz, looooveess Spencer.) That's the first time MTV has shown me music since, well actually, that might have been the first time. I download so much music that much of it gets lost in the shuffle. This song was one of them. I hate not knowing about good songs, especially ones that I have. I get extremely angry. It's kind of funny. It's bound to drive me crazy one day.
Local Natives - "Airplanes"
Dope. This song is dope. This band is dope. I recently got their debut album, Gorilla Manor, and I'm digging it. Because I love comparing bands, they remind me a bit of Fleet Foxes and Arcade Fire with their echoey verses (Fleet Foxes) and their collective, everyone in the band yelling choruses (Arcade Fire). Both influences can be heard in "Warning Sign." "Airplanes" in particular though, is so, so good. I love persistent songs that charge at you for four minutes. I also love bands with really good lead singers. Local Natives front man has an amazing voice. Dudes with good voices are my weakness.
Band of Horses - "Laredo"
Is it May 18th yet? That's when the new BOH album, Infinite Arms, is released. I am seriously counting down the days (22) until this comes out. I only do that with Mariah albums, leave your judgements at the door. "Laredo" is the first single off of the album and it is awe-sem (Hi, Frond). This song has actually been on my "songs I can't stop listening to" list for about two weeks now. It's going to be hard to replace. I just took a look at my play count on iTunes: 77. I'm not lying about this whole obsessed thing. This is a perfect spring song and just makes me want to drive around 'with my windows down 'till I run out of gas. Ben Bridwell, you may or may not have the best voice ever.
